This Sunday, April 12th, we’ll be sponsoring an informational time on the importance of having a health care power of attorney for all students from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Health Care Power of Attorney (HCPOA) is important because it gives a voice when someone becomes so ill that they can’t make decisions for themselves on health issues. We’ve had 2 of these instances with students related to the Foundation over the past 8 months. If you become so ill/injured that you’re unable to answer for yourself, and haven’t filled out an HCPOA, then the state or their agent becomes the decision maker. Parents of students over 18 also aren’t always allowed to make decisions because of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws unless an HCPOA is present. This informational session is highly recommended for all students who are over 18 years old.
